The light bulb symbolises the reason Eindhoven became the fifth city of the Netherlands. The Philips coorporation started their company in 1891. A long and rich history would follow in a rapid pace. The founders Anton and Gerard Philips first product was the light bulb. They produced it on a mass scale early in the history of electric light and that's how Eindhoven got it's nickname 'City of Light'. Philips has many patents on their name like the tape cassete and the joint venture in the developement of the Compact Disc with Sony. The Philishave is also a famous product. The Philips company was so much embedded in the city that many public facilities where Philips' initiatives. It included, for instance, the building of many houses for their workers, a time ahead insurance plan, a Design Academy, a relaxations centre and of course the well known Philips sports club (PSV). There has been a time when every family had at least one person working for Philips. This is all why the light bulb, symbolising the roots of Philips and the growth of the city, is seen on many spots in city as true symbol by the people for the people of Eindhoven. This version is quite new and making it's way all across the city and beyond. The Light Bulb from Eindhoven is even spreading in other countries through sticker art. See bit.ly/LightBulb for that. A brief history of Philips can be found here www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips
